Solving problems with your PayPal account

Contact PayPal if your account has been blocked

If you receive a message that your account has been blocked, call or email PayPal support. Pre-login to your account to speed up the process. Be prepared to provide your phone number, email address, and a fragment of your linked card or bank account, so that the PayPal employees can verify that you are the owner of the account.

Check your bank card details if payment was declined

Make sure that the card did not expire and that the bank details are correct. Update the card information if necessary. In case this does not solve the problem, check the information on the “Account” tab. If there is a “Confirm card” option, click on it and go through the confirmation procedure.

If the card information is correct and it has already been confirmed, make sure that the recipient of your payment has confirmed the information in your PayPal account and it is fully configured. You also have the opportunity to change or add a new method of making payments to your account.

If none of the above helps you solve the problem, contact your bank. Explain the problem with making payments through PayPal, mentioning they are being rejected, and ask what you have to do to complete the necessary transaction.

You will be asked to enter the email address associated with your PayPal account. After that, click “Next”, and select a password recovery method. You will have the option of password recovery via SMS, email, a phone call, or the answer to a secret question.

The next steps will differ depending on your choice. Carefully follow the PayPal instructions to regain access to your account.

The “Security” tab will appear above your account information when you enter your profile settings. On the page that opens when you click it, there will be a special button for editing this parameter, to the right of the “Password” section. First, you need to enter a valid password, and then enter the new password twice. When everything is ready, click on the “Change Password” button.

Additionally, you can change your security questions in the “Security” tab. To do so, simply click on the “Edit” button to the right of the relevant section.

 

Beware of online scams

If you sell a certain item through any trading platform, beware of people who promise to pay, but do not do it. If there are disturbing signals, stop any communication with a suspicious buyer. Common alarms that indicate potential scam include:

  1. refusal of the buyer to arrange a personal meeting or a phone conversation;
  2. offer to pay more money than you ask;
  3. sending the item or money to the courier’s address or transfer via Western Union or another payment system.

If you received an email that looks like a standard PayPal email, check it carefully before clicking any links in it. If the letter says that you received a payment, check your PayPal account to make sure it is. Then the payment and the letter are real. Otherwise, the letter should be sent to spoof@paypal.com. Other suspicious signs include:

  1. PayPal do not contact you by name and surname;
  2. a message about the payment freeze until you take certain actions.
