Digital Marketing trends for small business in 2019
Every year, loads of articles are being written about internet promotion. But very few business owners and marketers apply these new tools, test new channels and use the information received.
We hope that you are not one of them. In this article, we collected the key digital marketing trends that small businesses need to keep an eye on this year.
Chatbots and augmented reality
Bringing traffic to the website is only half of the battle. Traffic needs to be converted into leads, and leads – into sales. Only large companies can process clients’ queries in real time nowadays. Small businesses will feel there is a lack of resources to communicate with potential customers this way. However, it is still possible to reduce transaction costs and save time for sales professionals. Chatbots will become commonplace; now it is no longer a trend, but a reality that you need to adjust to in order to move forward.
Furthermore, many retailers have begun to use augmented reality for marketing purposes. This technology is developing and gradually becoming available for small and medium-sized businesses.
Influencer marketing is a great thing. Nevertheless, in the last couple of years, businesses have abused this strategy so much that its effectiveness is now decreasing. Today, users suspect that every recommendation on the Internet is an arrogant way to sell them something, hiding behind an influential person.
Most of the audience no longer believes what Instagram stars say, like those claiming that a certain cocktail can help you lose 20 kg in a week or that some magic whitening strips will make your teeth snow white like Ross’ from the TV series “Friends”.
Last year, the US Federal Trade Commission sent more than 90 written warnings to the influencers, including Kim Kardashian, who is very popular on Instagram. They told bloggers to clearly inform their subscribers about the relationship they have with the brand or the products of which they advertise on their pages.
“Microinfluencers” are gradually becoming a new trend this year: microinfluencers are bloggers with a small but active audience. Brands pay less attention to the number of subscribers and views, but engagement comes to the fore.
The influencers who have between 1,000 to 200,000 followers on Instagram, or between 20,000 to 300,000 on YouTube, can become ambassadors of the brand. More often, these are the bloggers who create niche content: photography, sports, travel, fashion, technology or lifestyle. Microinfluencers understand their subject well, so they have a specifically targeted audience that listens to them.
Therefore, the influencer marketing strategy has to change in 2019 in order to continue to gain the trust and loyalty of the audience instead of their skepticism and negativity.
According to a Livestream survey, 80% of the users prefer to watch live-video by a brand instead of reading a post on social media. And more than half of the marketers worldwide have said that video content generates the highest ROI.
In 2019, live broadcasts will become a more popular method for attracting the attention of the audience. Moreover, live video is highly accessible even to the smallest of businesses since it does not require large financial and time costs.
The simplicity, including the lack of necessity to edit, makes this format soulful and close to Internet users. This approach helps brands become more relatable to the audience. This way, broadcast live can win more trust and loyalty from potential customers in 2019.
Interactive content has become much more effective than traditional. The reason for this is that interactive content forces the user to engage with the brand, which is the ultimate goal of any advertising activity. For example, to draw attention to energy issues, Shell has developed an interactive web page where you can mix your own music video.
In 2019, companies need to create content that their audiences want to interact with. Surveys, infographics, quizzes and tests – these are examples of interactive format, which instantly attracts people’s interest.
As you can see, 2019 will not become the year of digital revolution. The technologies and techniques we discussed above appeared a few years ago. But only this year they will become real trends which shape the modern online businesses.
